Navy Accent Wall Bedroom
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape® for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
I've always wanted a navy blue accent wall next to a bright white wall with crisp edges and gorgeous white crown molding to make the blue pop. After trying out twelve different shades of navy blue paint testers (yes, twelve!), we finally found the one last week. It was as if the paint gods were finally smiling down on us on our quest for the perfect paint color!
This past weekend was the big day when we were going to transform one side of the wall going down the stairs to our bedroom. The wall was white and boring and was just begging for a coat of dramatic paint, and navy blue and a bright, crisp white fit perfectly with my nautical loving soul!
I'm going to share a few tips on creating your own accent wall and how I got crisp, clean lines on the edges of my wall, which is essential when painting with bold or dark colors.
This is a great little project to do on a Saturday afternoon, or even after work during the week. You get SO much satisfaction and bang for your diy/decorating buck here because painting one wall is really not too hard and will only take a couple hours, but makes such a big impact on your space!
Prepping the Navy Blue Accent Wall
Here's the before picture of my wall, with a few of the 12 tester colors painted on. Old, ugly, boring, and in desperate need of help!
I bought a premium paint that already had primer mixed with the paint and a new roller, then pulled out my trusty patinbrush and FrogTape® Multi-Surface painter's tape.
It's the only tape treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology- PaintBlock® reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a barrier against paint bleed. This gives you the sharpest paint lines possible, which is perfect when painting with any color.
I cleaned my wall first, then let it dry. Next, I taped off all the edges along where my navy paint was going, making sure I pressed down on each edge to seal the tape to the wall.
Painting the Navy Blue Accent Wall
Then comes the fun part- painting! I used a roller on the entire wall except the edges, then used my brush to finish off the edges and corners. I brushed right over the FrogTape® brand painter's tape , then when I was done I pulled up the tape.
With this tape, you pull it up when the paint is still wet. It's SO satisfying to pull up the paint and see those beautiful, crisp edges with such minimal work!
I've been apprehensive about painter's tape in the past because I could never get the straight lines that were promised, but I was really impressed with the FrogTape® Multi-Surface painter's tape! Can you believe how straight and perfect that line is?!?
Decorating the Navy Blue Accent Wall
Once the paint was dry, we drilled a few holes and hung some gorgeous white crown molding shelves. They are nice and bright and look amazing with the dark blue wall.
I filled in some of our frames with wedding photos, portraits of our four kids, and a few nautical decorations.
My ship, a glass bottle filled with sea glass, a frame filled with three black and white sailboat photos, and two different sizes of clocks were the perfect embellishments for the shelves.
They added just enough without being too busy. I'm absolutely in LOVE with my new wall, and can't believe how the space was absolutely transformed in a matter of a couple short hours.
We're ripping up the carpet in our room next, painting the rest of our bedroom walls (including another navy blue accent wall behind our bed), then installing new flooring. I'll be sure to keep you posted with updates!
We're working our way from room to room and trying to get our home exactly the way we want it. It's a lot of work, but is so satisfying.
If you've got some painting in your future, you really should tryFrogTape® brand painter's tape. It saved me a TON of time in getting the perfect paint lines, and I'm so impressed with my new wall! Get inspired with thisFrogTape® painting inspirationand get new painting ideas for your home too.
